PROJECT: VUNO HOME 2
- PLACE:VUNO VILLAGE, MUNICIPALITY OF HIMAR
- PHASE:IMPLEMENTATION DESIGN AND SUPERVISION
- YEAR:JULY 2011- DECEMBER 2014
The objective of the R&F is to discourage the destruction and/or abandonment of traditional homes in favor of anonymous new structures. To attain its objective the R&F will provide complementary financial and technical support to homeowners of selected villages through targeted assistance to eligible homeowners of traditional dwellings (75) to repair their roofs and facades in accordance with traditional techniques and materials. It will also assist elected municipalities, communes and villages located in Albania’s Southern Coastal zone in preserving, protecting and enhancing their natural and cultural resources, while utilizing these assets for economic development. The selected villages include in the Municipality of Himara: Vuno, Ilias, Old Dhermi, Old Himara and Old Qeparo; and in the Commune of Lukove: Luksht (a neighborhood of Lukove), Nivice and Piqeras. Additionally, for sustainability purposes and to further support comprehensive local economic development, the R&F will include a Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Window to pilot interior improvements on a limited number of homes (20) so as to diversify the tourism product of the Southern Coast. The B&B initiative will partially finance the unobtrusive adaptation of interiors to the conditions of modern living in order to diversify the tourism product and address shortfalls in the provision of hospitality services in the coastal area. The roof repair is very important for the lifetime of these houses. The facades revitalization is important for the traditional values of these houses and also for the improvement of finishes such as doors and windows.
